Thiel Mountains Antartica Pallasite - Slice, 258 g

The Thiel Mountains meteorite is a rare main-group pallasite discovered in Antarctica on December 7, 1961. It was found by U.S. Geological Survey geologists near Mount Wrather in the Thiel Mountains region. This discovery marked only the third meteorite ever found in Antarctica and the first pallasite recovered from the continent.

The Thiel Mountains meteorite holds significant scientific value, offering insights into planetary differentiation and the history of meteorite collection in Antarctica. Being from Antartica, it is illegal for non scientific purposes to collect samples, thus it is exceedingly rare for an individual to be made available outside of museums.

This slice was originally obtained by Robert Haag in trade with the Smithsonian Museum. It appears in several of Robert Haag’s meteorite catalogs, including the 2020 edition on Page 7.

Approximately 4 by 6 inches, 258 g.
