Unclassified Iron Meteorite - Oriented Shield, 7.54 kg

An amazing flight oriented iron meteorite in a shield shape. The top side is smooth and curved in a classic “heat shield” shape, while the reverse has a sculpted shape with deep impressions. There is a very prominent lip that runs along the edge of the shield where the metal melted and formed a rollover lip around the entire perimeter. In addition fusion crust is visible on many sections along with wonderful flow lines.

Purchased from a dealer in Mauritania who acquired it in Mali. Possibly Taza.

Approximately 8” in diameter and 3” thickness.
